Year 5 have their own email account. Please feel free to contact us via stphilipsyear5@gmail.com

WE'RE IN OUR FINAL WEEK!

Year 5 went 'Colour Crazy' for Children in Need.

Our science topic this half term is 'Gases Around Us'. The class enjoyed a practical lesson making 'air-driven monorails'

Year 5 really enjoyed their trip to Quarry Bank Mill. We learnt all about the working conditions and the children enjoyed taking on the roles of various mill staff. After lunch we headed to the 'Apprentice House' where the children had a hands on experience of life for children of their age, back in Victorian times. They started with a school lesson, followed by bed making and emptying chamber pots! Please see the photostory below for a snapshot of our day.

The children looked fantastic in their outfits!!!

As part of our Wizard of Oz topic the children investigated whether brown sugar really does dissolve as in the story Dorothy says "The witch dissolved like brown sugar". The children made their own brown sugar models of the Wicked Witch of the West and then poured water over them.

We love to read in year 5 so once a week the children get together in their groups and read to each other.
As the weather has been so lovely we decided to take our learning outside. The children were able to plan some fantastic playscripts about summer holidays, and creepy goings on, whilst sat out in the sun!
For our D&T topic this half term Year 5 designed and made their own musical instruments. They got to play them during a music lesson before taking them home.
The children have made a fantastic effort for the Jubilee celebrations.
On Tuesday afternoon 8 of the class went to Stanley High School to take part in Quad Kids as part of Sefton's Olympic Week.

Well done to all of the children who took part in the public speaking competition at Meols Cop High School. Rosie Hughes was the winner this year, well done Rosie!

As part of our science topic 'Life Cycles' the children have enjoyed watching our caterpillars grow, form their chrysalis and then transform in to butterflies. We enjoyed seeing them fly away to a new life last week. Please see the photostory below.

Thank you so much for your support this year. We have had a fantastic year, the children have been extremely enthusiastic and hard working and I am looking forward to us all moving up to Year 6 together. I hope you all have a wonderful summer!!
