Henri Matisse - 'The Snail'

Art

Henri Matisse is a famous French artist who suffered from severe arthritis as he became older. This meant he could not paint as he had done before.

Matisse did not let this stop him from creating amazing works of art.

Instead of painting, he began to create collages. Some of these are enormous and fill an entire wall.

Matisse called one of his  artworks, ‘The Snail’ because he used the spiral shape on a snail’s shell for inspiration. This is the one we are using for our inspiration today.

He used large shapes cut from coloured paper to make his collage. You can do this too or use fabric, tissue paper, coloured foil or even coloured card. It is up to you!

To all you amazing artists out there, today I would like you to design a postcard to advertise Southport.

I have added some examples below to give you some ideas.

You may not recognise everything on the postcards as some of them a few years older than you.

Please share your postcards on our blog so we can all enjoy them. Thank you.

You will need to ask a grown up for help with this

You all know how much I love watching the birds on the bird feeders outside my window, I thought you may enjoy making some feeders from things you might have around your house. I am going to have a go at making some too. The birds are really busy at the moment as they have babies to feed so let's give them a helping hand.

Friday 15th May

This afternoon I thought it would be fun if we joined in with Year 1's task.

Please read the information below.

Over the next two weeks (until half term), I would like you to experiment with making different sounds. You may want to make your own instruments, you may have your own musical instruments that you could play, or you might want to use a variety of household objects that could be turned into instruments for the purpose of this task. Once you have spent time experimenting, I would like you to play along to The Beatles 'All You Need is Love' track and ask someone to record/video you doing this. If you can email these to me, I will create a "Mash-up" of all of the work. It does not need to be the whole song. The most important thing is that you have FUN making music!

It was Miss Samuel who made the Be Happy video and did such a brilliant job so I thought you would all like to be involved.

You can email your videos to me and I will forward them to her.

Have fun making. smiley

Friday 23rd April

Art - There are 3 activities today. You can choose which one you do or, if you want to, you can do them all.

  1. To make a heart or flower for Annie's ward (see yesterday's message if you are unsure what to do). I only have 6 so far so would be very grateful for more.
  2. Purple Mash Art - Creating pictures - Pointillism. I can't wait to see your dotty pictures.
  3. Can you make a walking caterpillar?  Watch the video and have a go. It took me a few attempts to get mine to work so keep trying.

Top tips - 1) don't use paper which is too light   2) Blow the caterpillar in little, short breaths not one long one 3) Blow the caterpillar between the 5th and 6th segments.

                                                                             Good luck
