Below are the vocabulary lists for music. These give an indication of the words that we want children to become familiar with during each key stage. They are not intended as a test list but show the kind of language staff will use and explain in lessons to broaden pupils' music vocabulary and understanding. There are some words which children will continually revisit during their learning. These include the names of percussion instruments; and the constantly revisited terms of melody, rhythm, accompaniment, tempo, pulse, beat, pitch and dynamics. Structure and timbre are visited in more depth at KS2.
