Our science “boffin” session brought learning to life through a series of exciting, hands-on experiments that captured everyone’s imagination. Children explored fascinating chemical reactions, including creating the famous “elephant’s toothpaste,” watching in amazement as foam rapidly expanded before their eyes. They also discovered principles of air pressure and force by using a leaf blower to keep a ball suspended in mid-air, and were amazed by the mystery of “disappearing water.” Each activity was designed to be interactive and engaging, sparking curiosity while encouraging children to ask questions and think like real scientists. The session was full of energy, laughter, and discovery, with children thoroughly enjoying every moment while learning through play.

Our visit to the Eco Centre was a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning and discovery. The children took part in exciting activities where they built simple circuits linked to solar panels, successfully generating energy to power a motor. Through a range of interactive games, they explored important environmental issues and developed their understanding of how we can care for our planet. In the immersive learning room, pupils discovered more about the water cycle and the rainforest, engaging with displays that brought these topics to life.

The children thoroughly enjoyed every session, and their enthusiasm was clear during the end-of-morning quizzes, which showed just how much they had learned. We finished the trip with a lovely lunch in the sunshine, followed by a brisk 1.5-mile walk there and back—making it a great day for both learning and exercise!

Year 4 enjoyed two online workshops this week focusing on Children's Mental Health awareness week- 

The first sessions was led by Liverpool Learning partnerships with spoken word artist, Danielle McLauren. She shared her poem written especially for this week called 'This is my place'.  The children then thought about school and where their safe place is- they wrote short lines of poetry.

Our second session of the week was with Picture News which again featured an author, Katie Hopper. She shared one of her books which focuses on emotions and the children were encouraged to think about what it means to belong and to really belong we need to feel safe, heard, valued, understood, and to experience kindness and respect.
