What are you looking forward to next year? Bring your letter with you to your transition day next week to give to your teachers.

We are also linking a lot of our activities throughout the week to Purplemash so make sure you log in!

Follow the Powerpoint throughout the week for each daily lesson and follow the instructions.

All additional prompts and supporting resources are also uploaded below.

Monday 29th June

This week is our busy week of putting on our creative hats and getting busy with designing and planning! Today you have a special task from Gru who needs you to design your own machine!!

Read through the Powerpoint and then follow the instructions. You will need to log on to Purplemash to complete your design task.

Monday 29th June

Friday 26th June

Today you are needing to log into Purplemash and complete reading activities. Look on your 'To Dos' and read the two chapters for today. You also have 3 activities for reading to choose from.

Thursday 25th June

Today, you are going to practise writing in the style of an explanation text using the WAGOLL to help you.

Read through your lesson Powerpoint and then open your activity that is attached. Get creative and use your imagination! Remember to use the features we have identified to practise writing in the style of an explanation text.

Wednesday 24th June

Today you are going to be exploring all about how to speak and write in the format of an explanation text. We have a funny one to get you in the mood of this genre, which is on the Powerpoint along with the instructions for your activity. Attached is your activity also.

Tuesday 23rd June

So one of the features you should have discovered yesterday that is used in an explanation text is: conjunctions. Before we get stuck into this unit, first we need to remind ourselves what conjunctions are and how/why we use them. What is their job in our writing?

Open up the Powerpoint today, this will tell you all about what we are learning and will guide you through each of your activities today.

Monday 22nd June

Good morning Year 3!

Over the next couple of weeks, we are starting a new topic for English all about: Explanation Texts!

Today, you are going to start to become experts on what explanation texts are and what they are used for. You are going to read lots of examples of different types of texts, about different topics. Using the Powerpoint as your guide through your lesson, you are going to highlight all the features you can find in the different explanation texts.

Watch the video as well to help give you lots of ideas.

Your final activity is uploaded below and the link can also be found on the Powerpoint.

All instructions are on the Powerpoint.

If you have any questions, just email Mrs Warham on: warhame@sps.sefton.school

Monday 22nd June Activity

Monday 23rd March - Writing Draft

I have attached a picture with a story starter and I'd like you to continue the story as best you can. Don't write too much just a short paragraph. Remember our work on naughty stories. Could there be a naughty character playing or spoiling the game?

Sapphire - Remember your full stops and capital letters and also make sure you use super vocabulary (adjectives, verbs, adverbs). I would also expect you to use conjunctions such as but, or, yet and so to extend your sentences.

Garnet - Remember your basic punctuation but can you use exclamation marks and rhetorical questions too? Think about subordinate clauses and use subordinating conjunctions such as: although, while, until, because, before, as, when.

Topaz and Emerald - As with Garnet but can you practise using inverted commas to add speech to writing? Remember to think about the rules for writing speech (new line for a new speaker, punctuation at end of speech before put closing inverted comma, capital letter at start of new speech)

Tomorrow I will set you a task that will involve editing your work. Good luck!!

Good morning Year 3! I hope that day 1 of home learning went well. You should have written a paragraph yesterday about a giant tennis match. Please read the instructions on the sheet attached to add extra information to your sentences to make them better. Once you have edited your work please email them to me if you would like! Happy editing, don't forget to use the writing mats to help with your editing.

Can you think about other reasons as to why a school might have no teachers or students? What has happened to them? You have until Friday to finish this as I'd like you to make sure you do some editing to ensure the report is the best it can be, so don't rush. Remember to use the writing mats attached above and the subordinating conjunctions poster.

Sapphire and Garnet - Keep working hard with key spellings and basic punctuation, how about some exclamation marks? I am so pleased that some of you are using our subordinating conjunctions and lots of adjectives. Keep it up!

Topaz and Emerald - Keep up the complex sentences (subordinating conjunctions and relative clauses). Can you put quotes in your reports from any interviews that may take place? Remember how to use inverted commas and watch the duck video if you don't.

I will attach the writing mats again below to help you with vocabulary and complex sentences such as using relative clauses (who, which) and also subordinating conjunctions to extend sentences and add information.

The task is called 2create. It's a lovely activity as you can create your own story over a series of pages that you can add illustrations to. I can't wait to see how creative you can be. If you don't have access to Purple Mash you could always create your story and illustrations on paper.
